The NBA G League will enter 2019 with new leadership at the president position.
In a tweeted announcement, it’s been confirmed that NBA veteran Shareef Abdur-Rahim has accepted the role, replacing outgoing NBA G League President, Malcolm Turner. Turner will be heading to Vanderbilt to become their new Athletic Director.

“I am thrilled to have this extraordinary opportunity with the NBA G League. I’ve seen firsthand the NBA G League’s remarkable growth under Malcolm’s leadership, and I look forward to working with the players, teams and my colleagues to take the league to even greater heights.” Abdur-Rahim said in a statement.
While the former 12–year, 1-time All-Star player is leaving his gig as NBA VP of Basketball Operations, Abdur-Rahim is a great hire who knows both sides of the game. Abdur-Rahim came into the league as one of the more heralded rookies from the legendary draft class of 1996, most known for his time as a Vancouver Grizzly.
Within less than two years of operation, the G League continues to make shrewd moves that are geared towards the future. Abdur-Rahim and the hires of fellow universally respected players, NBA’s Rod Strickland, and WNBA’s Allison Feaster are all positive steps in the right direction for wanting to recruit the country’s best young talent.
