High School Football Player Gives Up TD For His Teammate

High school football can launch the careers of future NFL stars. Highlight reels can ignite a recruiting freenzy and elevate a 17 year old player to stat status at the college level. But sometimes on the gridiron, statistics need to take a backseat to more important things, one being friendship.

The Colline-Maxwell/Baxter Raiders of Baxter, Iowa showed us just what friendship means last weekend in their game against Centerville. Star player Bryce Kemp, easily on his way into the end zone on a punt return, suddenly slid down at the one yard line, shocking everyone in attendance, especially his teammates and coaches. Kemp had a better goal in mind, and that was to let his good friend, senior captain and offensive lineman Clayton Weltha, score a TD in his last high school game. This "Rudy" like moment is what sports is all about.
